What is LASIK?
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery used to treat nearsightedness, astigmatism and farsightedness by reshaping the cornea’s curvature. If you have one of these three conditions, you have blurry vision because when light enters your eye through your cornea, it fails to focus clearly on the back of the eye (retina). LASIK restores good eyesight by focusing light clearly on the retina.

An outpatient procedure, LASIK has gained popularity due to its short recovery time and limited postoperative pain. You heal rapidly, reducing the need for prolonged medication and allowing both eyes to be treated at the same time. Most people experience about 12 hours of mild irritation after the procedure, similar to the feeling of dirty contact lenses. One dose of Tylenol is typically all most people need. Most patients return to work within 48 hours.
Horizon Eye Care began performing corneal refractive surgery in 1985, followed by Laser Vision Correction in 1993 and LASIK in 1997. We offer you exceptional care and results with our fully equipped LASIK center, dedicated solely to performing this procedure.

FAQs about LASIK
What is LASIK?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery that treats nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. During the procedure, a LASIK surgeon creates a thin flap in your cornea, uses an excimer laser to reshape the underlying corneal tissue, and then repositions the flap. This reshaping changes how light focuses on your retina, improving vision without glasses or contacts.
Am I a good candidate for LASIK?
Good candidates are typically 21 to 60 years old with stable vision for at least one year. You may not be a candidate if you're pregnant or nursing, have certain medical conditions, thin corneas, severe dry eye, or unstable vision. Our free consultation will determine if LASIK is right for you or if alternative procedures like PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) might be more suitable.
What happens during the procedure?
The outpatient procedure takes approximately 15 minutes per eye. After numbing eye drops are applied, your surgeon creates a thin corneal flap, reshapes the underlying cornea with a laser, and repositions the flap. The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser tracks your eye position several times per second, automatically pausing if you move.
How soon will I notice results and return to normal activities?
Most patients see clearly within 24 hours and can drive the day after their post-operative exam. Typically, you can return to work and resume normal activities within a few days. While vision improvement is noticeable quickly, results take several weeks to fully stabilize.
Does LASIK hurt?
Most patients experience 6-12 hours of mild irritation after LASIK, similar to having dirty contact lenses. One dose of over-the-counter pain reliever is typically all that's needed. The procedure itself is comfortable thanks to numbing eye drops.
What are the risks?
While complications are rare, risks include temporary visual disturbances like halos around lights at night (usually resolving within months), dry eyes, and the possibility of needing a second treatment (enhancement) for optimal results. Following post-operative care instructions minimizes these risks.
How can I finance my procedure?
We offer competitive pricing and affordable monthly payment options through Alphaeon, which provides different financing plans including a no-interest option for up to 12 months. Call 1-855-497-8176 or visit goalphaeon.com for more information.
