Horizon Eye Care Volunteers Bring Food, Fun To Charlotte Shelter Program

Horizon physicians and staff members partnered with Charlotte Family Housing (CFH) to grill hamburgers and hot dogs and entertain Plaza Place’s transitional shelter residents during a June 29 dinner.

HEC_CFHHorizon celebrated CFH’s mission of family self-sufficiency at Plaza Place, a 15-bedroom house on The Plaza that offers short-term shelter for homeless families while providing comprehensive support. The 15 adults and 40 children living there were treated to games and a fun evening.

“Horizon Eye Care recognizes how fortunate we are to serve patients in the Charlotte region. We believe strongly in giving back and take pride in being positive contributors to the fabric of our community,” says Horizon President Dr. Mark L. Malton.

Horizon employees contributed cash donations and raised more money for the event through the purchase of more than 120 special Horizon Eye Care 2015 t-shirts, to be worn for charity events and Casual for a Cause days. Horizon’s first Casual for a Cause day was June 26.

Plaza Place is one of three Charlotte Family Housing shelter programs in which families receive guidance from social workers to manage a household budget, establish healthy routines and become more involved in their children’s education.
